One of the ways you can share other people’s content with ease is straight to your Instagram stories for your followers to see.
Over the years, Instagram has evolved to a platform that not only encourages people to share their own content, but also that of the people they follow.
With that said, sharing posts from other users on your Instagram stories isn’t as straightforward as it might seem, which is why many people are often left confused.
So, in this article, we will show you how to share posts from other users on your Instagram stories. But, before we do that, let’s first talk about what posts you can and can’t share with your story.
Which Posts Can I Share on My Instagram Stories?
When you go on Instagram, you might notice that not all the posts are shareable. This is because users have the option to allow or prevent their followers from sharing their posts.
So, if the step-by-step process that we’re about to show you below doesn’t work, that’s because the person behind the content you want to share has decided that they don’t want anyone to be able to share it but themselves.
If you look closely at the post, if it’s locked from sharing, then it won’t have the share icon for you to click on.

How to Share Other Users’ Posts on Your Instagram Story
To share another person’s post on your Instagram story, all you have to do is go to the post. If the video or photo is shareable, you should see a share icon beside the comment icon. The share icon looks like a paper plane, so it’s pretty hard to miss.
When you tap the share icon, you get various sharing options to choose from. You can opt to share it with another account via private message, but in this case, we’ll explain how to share them with your story. To do this, simply tap on the add post/reel/video to your story.
From there, you’ll get a preview of how the post will look on your story. This is where you can change the size, add a filter, add captions, or even GIFs and stickers to the video. And when you’re satisfied with how the story looks, all you have to do is tap the share button and it will start uploading.

Can I Still Post Private Posts to My Story on Instagram?
If the post you want to share doesn’t have the share icon, then you won’t be able to share the photo or video of your story for your followers to see.
Instagram respects its user’s privacy, which is why they have the option of keeping your posts private and not allowing other users to share your content if you don’t want them to.
That said, if it’s a photo that you want to share, you can still technically share it with your audience on your Instagram story. Simply screenshot it, and publish it to your story.
Granted, users won’t be able to click on it and go to the original post, so do keep that in mind.
